Clayton Pennell is a sportsman, conservationist, and artist who aspires to capture and inspire the imagination through his modern sporting art. From a young age, Clayton loved to draw the world and wildlife around him in his unique way. He started developing his style of painting after graduating from Appalachian State University and beginning a career as hunting and fly-fishing guide in the mountains and foothills of North Carolina. As a self-taught artist, Clayton has developed a unique style influenced by a love of the forms of animals and fascination with cave paintings of early man. Clayton started moving towards a career as an artist in 2016 and began painting full-time in 2018. His work has sold to collectors across the globe and has exhibited at the Plantation Wildlife Arts Festival and Southeastern Wildlife Exposition. Clayton paints animals in a new light, focusing on form, motion, and color in what he considers a modern form of cave painting. His work spurs the imagination, as his vibrant art invites the viewer to use their memories from the field to construct an interpretation of the animal that is as unique as the painting itself. Clayton's art reflects the beauty and power of wildlife through an elegantly sleek, modern style.
